First time in the field
Posted on November 5th, 2006 No commentsSince we were going for a sunday walk and the weather was nice, I decided to take the KX1 with me. This the first time I try it in the field. I tied a short branch to the end of the wire and threw it up in a short tree. The wire is just 5 meters long and the counterpoise just about 2-2.5 meters or something.
This worked great on 20 meters and signals were loud and clear. Found DJ7AC in QSO on 14.061 and waited for him to finish his QSO. Read the rest of this entry »

Antennas
Posted on November 4th, 2006 No commentsI’ve been trying to find a wire antenna that will work from our apartment, but realize that it will not be an easy task. We live in a house made of concrete and steel so anything inside will not radiate that well. Guess I’ll have to find some aluminum pole to put on the balcony.
It’s pretty cold outside, so testing the KX1 with a wire in the tree will not be done till temperatures improves.

LB1GB QRP
Posted on November 2nd, 2006 No commentsWelcome to my blog. I just got my first QRP rig, an Elecraft KX1 with serial number 975. This will be a huge difference from what I’m used to at LA8W Lima Alfa Contest Club(now Aurora Contest Team). I will try to keep this blog up to date with my QRP activities. See you!
