OL-127 Nevelfjell
LA/OL-127 Camilla, my little helper, originally uploaded by LB1GB.
Made time for 1 activation during our vacation while on Hafjell. This time Camilla came along. Nevelfjell is a short 1 hour walk, if you bring kids that is. The distance can be covered much faster if alone. Descent was a short 30 minute walk.
AH-010 Barlinderåsen
LA/AH-010 Operating position, originally uploaded by LB1GB.
LA/AH-010 Barlinderåsen is not very far from my home QTH. It’s a short 20 km drive. but you have to walk for about 1.5 hours to get to the top. Barlinderåsen(398m) is right next to the more known Ramstadslottet(394m) which offers a great view in almost all directions. The view from Barlinderåsen is more limited, but offers a valid SOTA.
It was a beautiful sunny day and the walk was great.
Thanks for all the QSO’s.

OF-001 Linnekleppen
Yesterday I activated OF-001 Linnekleppen. The only summit in Østfold fylke. It rises 325 meters above sea level, but is only the second tallest summit.
The route I chose was 2.5 km which shouldn’t be so hard, but proved to be harder that anticipated. It’s somewhat hilly and goes through bog and dense forest which makes it quite a walk for an unfit ham operator.
I started my walk from Tiuren; Turn left to Dalen on R124 from Rakkestad, this is about 9 km from Rakkestad, and drive till there’s no more road(toll road when asphalt turns to gravel; kr.20,-). Entry path is about 50 m before you reach Tiuren. Be sure to wear water resistant boots!
On the summit you will find a couple of benches, a small doorless hut, trees to hang your antennas, and a fire tower. The fire tower on Linnekleppen is manned all summer.
First SOTA Norway activation
First, please accept my apologies for the very short operation!
I only had time to do a 30 minutes activation the first day of SOTA Norway. LA/OS-003 was chosen because of easy access and the little time I had. I am satisfied with 7 QSO’s in about 20 minutes with a long-wire about 2-4 meters up. GW0DSP was the first QSO in log at 06:37 UTC. See all QSO’s in my SOTA log.
It was great fun and I am already looking forward to activate a new summit. It will be a summit north of Oslo.
Congrats to LA1TPA and LA1ENA for their activations on day 1.
Thanks to all for calling.
New QSL cards
Since I always operate from either our own station LA8W or from somewhere else, I never needed my own cards. But since I’ve started to do some QRP’ing, I decided to print some cards. I chose to print my cards with UX5UO. He has the best prices I could find on the net, and as far as I know the quality is very good.
I made two designs, well I design one of them and Gennady UX5UO designed the other one after I sent him a sample.
This is how they look:

SOTA(Summits on the Air) Norway
Been busy with SOTA Norway lately, with great help from LA1TPA and LA1ENA. And if everything goes well we will start SOTA Norway on May 1. 2008. Go to sota.no for more info, and to sota.org.uk for even more info on the SOTA programme.
I will try to activate OS-003 on May 1. Look for LB1GB/p on 40, 30 or 20 meters QRP. I will post my operation on sotawatch.org.
Finally I have time to QRP
Finally I have time to do some QRP. First is from Bergen, from July 30 till August 3. I will try to be active from the top of Fløibanen, but this is not sure. I will be active from Bergen though!
Link to Fløibanen: http://www.floibanen.com/
Next is from Hemsedal from August 5 till August 11 which will give a little more time to QRP but not much. We have 2 kids so time will be limited. And I would like to find time for trout-fishing as well.
Look for me on QRP frequencies: around 14.060, 10.106 and 7.030

QRP in Vigeland Park
LB8IB Olaf and I went with our families to the Vigeland Sculpture Park in Oslo this Sunday. This time we didn’t go there to look at the sculptures, but to see the new kids play ground. Turned out the kids would rather play in the many leaves on the ground than the overcrowded play castle.

Luckily I brought the KX1 with me to show Olaf how great this small rig is. We threw the 5 meter “long” wire up in the nearest tree and found a contest running. Turned out this was OK/OM DX contest, but we didn’t make any QSO’s as the contest was over before we could finish any contact. LB8IB made two half QSO’s, RN6AP and ON7BIP I believe it was. He lost them both before the QSO was completed. I managed to make 1 QSO with OK1HB who was running 1W into a dipole in Dubne, CZ. Ruda OK1HB had a good signal and it seems he copied me well since there were no questionmarks during the QSO. In the picture you see the play castle on top, and LB8IB in action below.
Had lots of fun, but will find a new wire for the long wire. The one I’m using now is much thicker than neccessary, making it hard straightening it.
First time in the field
Since we were going for a sunday walk and the weather was nice, I decided to take the KX1 with me. This the first time I try it in the field. I tied a short branch to the end of the wire and threw it up in a short tree. The wire is just 5 meters long and the counterpoise just about 2-2.5 meters or something.
This worked great on 20 meters and signals were loud and clear. Found DJ7AC in QSO on 14.061 and waited for him to finish his QSO. › Continue reading
