LN9Z, with Chris LA8OM as operator for the first time, worked 1777 QSOs and 495,176 points on SOSB 20 meter in the CQ WW DX CW contest. This is new LA record with good margin. Jan LB1G used LA9Z and worked 2127 QSOs and 380,664 points on SOSB 40 meter. This was not enough to beat LA1EE's 19 year old record. Thank you all for working us in the contest, and we look forward to work you again.
We are happy to have Chris LA8OM on board. Chris is a very capable CW operator and has a lot of single op contesting experience. LA8OM holds the LA records on SOSB 10m LP in CQWWDX CW and SO LP Mixed in the ARRL 10m Contest. Here up north the day is significantly shorter in the CW part than in the SSB part. With the current, low flux, this is very noticable on 20m, which yields shorter openings than in the SSB part. On 40m the short day is better. The band was open for DX all day, except, unfortunately during the best time for US, the MUF dived too deep. This was the main reason why Jan did not enough DX contacts to set new LA record on 40m.
