Welcome to Leia Contest Club |
As an offspring of LA Contest Club (LACC), Leia Contest Club was established by the end of 2005 by Roy LA5KO and Jan LB1G (ex LA9HW). A club call (LA9Z) was obtained, and a QTH was aquired early 2006. The club was first aired in ARRL DX Contest CW 2006, with 100W and a temporary W3DZZ antenna. Since then, most major contests have be operated with LA9Z or LN9Z.
The long term plan, as workload and money permit, is a major contest station with multi-multi capabilities and ability to compete in WW top 5 - when our northern propagations (Aurora) allow us. At present two vertical antennas are erected. Originally they were Titanex verticals, but they did not survive the wind conditions. The verticals had to be rebuilt, and are currently serving as an inverted-L on 80m and a quarter wave GP on 40m. A 5 element OWA yagi @ 18 MAGL is used on 20 meter. The Optibeam OB5-20 is working very well. The current vertical antennas may be used with limited performance on 15m and 10m. More antennas will be added once we see that the current antennas can withstand the severe wind conditions at our QTH. We are committed to obey to contest rules and we support FAIR PLAY CONTESTING. |

We were very happy to have Bjorn, LB1GB, joining us for the CQ WPX CW contest this year. Unfortunately we were strongly hit by the CME induced Aurora. Conditions were terrible. LB1GB operated LN9Z in an effort on SOSB 14 MHz, and he worked 1121 QSOs and 567 mults to achieve 902,097 pts. Jan, LB1G, operated LA9Z in an effort on SOSB 7 MHz, and he worked 1352 QSOs and 565 mults to achieve 1,870,715 pts. Neither of the efforts will yield new LA records, - as we were aiming for. To those of you we could reach through the Aurora (Iron) Curtain: Thank you very much for calling us. |

Sorry, we've been a bit behind with sending out QSL cards. We receive substantial quantities of QSLs. and we're very happy to be "a new one" to so many hams. LB1G committed the whole May 1st weekend to QSL work. Jan managed to finish all direct QSLs, and they go in the mail one of the first days of May. Unfortunately he did not manage to work through the whole pile of bureau cards this weekend, but please be patient, - all of them will come in due time... Since we appreaciate each and every QSO so much, we are dedicated to respond 100% to QSLs. Thank you for calling LA9Z / LN9Z, and please keep calling us whenever you hear us on the bands. |

The goal in this year's CQ WPX SSB was to beat the nearly 30 year old LA record in MOST of just below 5.2 mill points set by LG5LG in 1981. With LA5KO / Roy and LB1G / Jan as the only two operators, we knew it would be tough. Both of us had aimed for this record before at LA8W/LN8W and failed. But we did it! The old record was passed on Sunday morning, and LN9Z ended up with a claimed score in excess of 8.5 mill points after having worked 3194 QSOs and 1148 prefixes. VY TNX to all who called us ! Looking forward to work you again in the next contest. |
