As an offspring of LA Contest Club (LACC), Leia Contest Club was established by the end of 2005 by Roy LA5KO and Jan LB1G (ex LA9HW). A club call (LA9Z) was obtained, and a QTH was aquired early 2006. The club was first aired in ARRL DX Contest CW 2006, with 100W and a temporary W3DZZ antenna. Since then, most major contests have be operated with LA9Z or LN9Z.
The long term plan, as workload and money permit, is a major contest station with multi-multi capabilities and ability to compete in WW top 5 - when our northern propagations (Aurora) allow us. At present two vertical antennas are erected. Originally they were Titanex verticals, but they did not survive the wind conditions. The verticals had to be rebuilt, and are currently serving as an inverted-L on 80m and a quarter wave GP on 40m. A 5 element OWA yagi @ 18 MAGL is used on 20 meter. The Optibeam OB5-20 is working very well. The current vertical antennas may be used with limited performance on 15m and 10m. More antennas will be added once we see that the current antennas can withstand the severe wind conditions at our QTH. We are committed to obey to contest rules and we support FAIR PLAY CONTESTING. PLANNED OPERATIONS: Russian DX : 20th - 21st March - LN9Z Multi operation to gain experience. Guest operators are welcome. We are aiming for a Multi-Two operation so everyone can work as much as possible. CQ WPX SSB : 27th - 28th March - LN9Z Multi operation to gain experience and have fun for as many operators as possible. Guest operators are welcome. |
